Situated at the top of Sani Pass in a world heritage site on the border between South Africa and Lesotho, Sani Mountain Lodge offers travellers a unique experience, warm hospitality and breath-taking views from the top of the Drakensberg escarpment.

Why is this well-kept secret so unique? Well, it starts with the fact that you’ve just driven the awesome Sani Pass. Stop. Step into the stunning views. Find yourself on top of the world. Literally and figuratively. Then realise that all supplies used have to come up this treacherous pass. Gasp. Go quiet. Feel the peace around you. Sense what makes this remote site so special.

Add to this friendly and helpful staff and you’ve pretty much landed with your bum in heaven.

Location & directions

Cell: 078 634 7496

Directions: From N3: Take the Underberg off ramp (exit 99) near Howick.
Drive to Underberg on the R617. 111kms. In Underberg, turn right to Himeville/Sani Pass. Drive through Himeville (±9km) to Sani Pass turn off - turn left.
The SA border post is 32kms from Himeville (±1 hour).
After the Sani Pass Hotel the road turns to gravel.
Sani Pass lies between the SA and Lesotho border posts. It includes 8km of hairpin bends, loose rocks and sheer drops but there’s nothing like the top-of-the-world feeling at the summit.
The lodge is on the right as you cross into Lesotho.
Note: Valid passports are required to get to the top of the Pass.
