This old sleepy railway village is a playground for adventure junkies.

The wild escarpment is a jumble of cliffs, canyons, rivers, lakes and open hilltops. It’s a top rock climbing destination with over 700 routes of different degrees of difficulty, so there’s something for every climber.  Hikers can do great day hikes, find waterfalls and maybe even encounter the wild horses that roam these mountains.

Waterval Boven  is rich with historical sites and buildings to keep budget travellers happy.  There is also the old Tunnel and Five Arch Bridge, as well as President Paul Kruger's official residence where he resided in 1900 before going into exile in Europe.

Horse riding and trout fishing are popular pastimes in the region with numerous fly fishing dams and rivers for the fly fishing enthusiast.
