Hermanus, where ragged cliffs frame lobtailing whales and busy restaurants throb with leisure-hungry guests, is one of Cape Town’s favourite weekend getaway spots for budget travellers.

Southern Right Whales arrive in their droves (or is that pods?) between July and December each year to breed and calve in Walker Bay. The ocean around Hermanus is shark infested, so if it’s an adrenaline boost you’re after try the Great White Shark cage diving, they’ll use you as bait! Try the Hermanus Backpackers Great (White) Deal!

There are also 14 kilometres of absolutely awesome cliff paths that follow one of the most beautiful coastlines in South Africa.

There is a lot for backpackers to do in Hermanus. Hunt down the classy wine farms that hide in fertile valleys. Try the La Vierge Private Cellar, or the Hamilton Russell Wine Cellars.

Hermanus is a mere 90 minute drive from Cape Town and is teeming with exciting activities to please any traveller. Choose an adrenaline filled abseil, a quad bike ride through the valley, a Paraglide over the valley or shark cage diving. There is something for everone.

Hermanus Backpackers offers two accommodation options for backpackers. Join the gang at the vibey backpackers or enjoy the B&B with a backpackers twist at The Cottage.
