Surrounded by rolling hills with three rivers flowing through the valleys into the sea, miles of white beaches backed by cliffs and all the space in the world, Coffee Bay’s setting is idyllic. Life here is rural and living is simple.
All a backpacker needs is time...

Don’t miss the walk to Hole-in-the-Wall, a remarkable piece of rock that’s had a huge hole eroded through it after millennia of pounding waves. It takes about 3 hours and is really worthwhile.

Coffee bay is a beachcombers delight that boasts backpackers lodges and bars, gorgeous swimming beaches, excellent fishing and breathtaking hikes. It is the only coastal resort, other than Port St Johns, to have a tarred road from the N2. Not only is the beach safe for swimming, but the area also offers one of the few consistent surfing waves on the Wild Coast.

Nearby activities include the Hluleka Nature Reserve, between Coffee Bay and Port St Johns, spearfishing, horse riding and golf.

Coffee Bay offers a choice of backpackers and budget travellers accommodation. Choose your spot from a tropical paradise on the beach at Coffee Shack, the luxury safari tents at Jah Drums or the neat and friendly Sugarloaf Backpackers.

Take your own provisions if you’re into self-catering.
