Sodwana Bay is a beautiful unspoilt jewel on the east coast of South Africa and boasts a rich natural bio diversity and activities such as scuba diving, fishing, turtle tours, ocean tours and more.

Humpback whales pass Sodwana en route to their northern breeding grounds and turtles return every year to follow an ancient nesting ritual. Marlin, whale sharks, sailfish and manta rays are found in the warm Mozambican Current and the underwater world is superb with spectacular coral formations. The coastline is also a breeding ground for the rare loggerhead turtle.

For the ocean loving backpacker,  ocean tours, kitesurfing, shark  education, fishing and more are on offer while landlubbers can go quad biking or on nature walks. This is a prime location for bird watching, and several game reserves offer safaris where the big five can be spotted.

Backpackers can gear up and enter the mind boggling kingdom of Indo-Pacific fish and invertebrates then chill in the comfy budget accommodation at Coral Divers bush camp. Spend a night in rustic self-catering accommodation with Natural Moments Bush Camp or check in to the comfortable cabins at Sea Escapes in Sodwana Bay.

It is advisable to take precautions against malaria especially during the hot summer months (October - May).
